Welcome, Fr. James Hagel

We are pleased to welcome Fr. James Hagel as the new Pastor of Holy Name Parish, effective August 1, 2025. Fr. Hagel brings with him a strong pastoral spirit, a commitment to building vibrant parish communities, and years of dedicated service within the Diocese of Calgary.
Fr. Hagel was ordained for the Diocese of Calgary and most recently served as Pastor of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish in Chestermere, where he began his ministry in September 2018. During his time there, he led a growing Catholic community and helped initiate the campaign to construct a permanent church building to replace the temporary worship space in a school gymnasium. He has also served in diocesan leadership as Vicar for Retired Priests and as a Collegial Judge of the Marriage Tribunal.
He is known for his creative pastoral initiatives, including “Angels on High,” a mountain hiking retreat and fundraiser that brought parishioners together in nature for fellowship and spiritual renewal. He has supported charitable outreach efforts that serve the homeless, assist women in crisis, and provide aid in times of disaster.
As he begins his ministry at Holy Name, Fr. Hagel brings with him a deep love for the sacraments, a strong commitment to evangelization, and a desire to help build a faithful and united parish community.
We look forward to walking together under his leadership. Please join us in offering Fr. Hagel a warm welcome as he begins this new chapter of ministry at Holy Name.
